UFI & PCN

What does UFI mean?

What does UFI mean? UFI stands for Unique Formula Identifier, an alphanumeric code consisting of 16 characters. It is calculated using your VAT-number and a product code. This code must be stated on labels of products (mixtures) with a health hazard and / or with a physical hazard. As of January 1, 2021, this obligation applies to products intended for consumers and professional users. The code must be preceded by the word “UFI”. Using the UFI, National Poison Centers can respond adequately in the event of an accident with the product.

As of January 1, 2024, manufacturers of industrial products must also comply with this legislation.

Poison Centres Notification (PCN)

As of 1 January 2021*, it is also mandatory to provide information about your products in the form of a Poison Centres Notification (PCN) digitally to the National Poison Centers or the relevant ECHA Portal.

With the standard version of ExESS you can easily calculate the UFI at the touch of a button. The ExESS-PCN module also allows you to quickly generate the Poison Centres Notification and with the purchase of PubliChem it can even be delivered fully automated to the Poison Centres or the ECHA Portal.
